The Kat's Journal

A journey, or so they tell me.

July 17th, 2009

I got a letter from the IRS today.

It seems I owe them a /lot/ of money from 2007 after they adjusted something or other.

I /have/ that much money right at this moment but it would, pretty, much kill the idea of buying a house any time soon.

I will be calling them in the morning, though likely, I imagine, they won't be open until Monday.

It has really, really, really been a hell of a week.

Heeee!

I love this site. LOVE IT.

There are some GLs missing that I would like to see but most of the ones I'd want are there.

7:30 8:00 8:30 on Friday people?

At the Regal Meridian 16.

Any choices on times?

Sorry I've taken so long. I've been almost eaten entirely by work and after the nerve wracking day is over today, I'll hopefully have my brain back.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=57191 - Badly scanned image of Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow. Niiiiiice. Nice.

There is a Twilight manga on the way. .... *sighs*

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince earned an estimated $22.2 million for its 3,003 midnight screenings, beating the $18.5 million midnight runs by The Dark Knight and the $16.9 million earned by Revenge of the Sith.

Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters is on the way, headed to your bookshelves.

There is a third Bridget Jones moving coming.

There was an early screening of GI Joe last night in Kansas City. All of the reviews I'm reading are saying that a) it is a fun movie and b) it is better than Transformers 2.

Stephen Chow has officially completely pulled entirely out of The Green Hornet.

Nick Cage says that he wants to 'reconstruct' Ghost Rider for a second movie.

... well, forever.

I'm not even there yet and it appears I have won a shirt! - http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/2008-12-6-motion-captured/posts/2009-7-5-the-morning-read-7-9-09 I've always liked Drew McWeeny's reviews and I like his new site and I like the shirt, so I'll be happy to wear it at the Con.

Also, I'm glad that the Stumptown shirt design turned out well: http://ruckawriter.livejournal.com/78150.html I'm hoping to be able to get one of those too because, well, it looks fun and I'd wear it more than once.

I still don't know what color Lantern shirt I want. Realistically, I know I'll get a black one because, well, have you seen my wardrobe? Other than that, I'm not sure.

Yes, I might well end up with more shirts from the show than there are days I'll be there but that's not uncommon. I usually come away with a few free ones. I think my record is four, though I only got one last year.

That brings me to the question - Anything anyone wants me to try to pick up for them? I have a few requests already but it is usually better to get them in one place.

Catie: MESSIAH COMPLEX and ULTIMATE X-MEN #1 (HC)
JR: Anti-Monitor points stuff
Kris: Katie Cook stuffs
Ian: Kyle Lantern shirt

Oh... Yeah.

I would have gotten in today if it weren't for the fact that someone had drilled the deadbolt and replaced the door locks as well as added a lockbox. So, y'know, I'm pretty sure I would have liked it on the inside. I did like what I saw of it, the bottom floor with the small 'bedroom' and half bath. Kris and I looked at a place a lot like this when we were looking for places to rent.

So, we'll see if I can go see it tomorrow.

Also, I need to talk to the bank about getting my credit extended since my 90 days have run out. I get the feeling there was something most I should have done there that I didn't but as soon as I can get someone to call me back, I'll get everything in order there.

And I'm using this icon because I refound this picture today.

Oh why the hell not?

Natalie Portman will be playing Jane Foster in “Thor.” Not sure how this works with the movie supposed to be mostly in ASgard but, hey, that's keen. I'll remind you that Chris Hemsworth will play Thor and Tom Hiddleston will play Loki. And if there is any justice in this world, Brian Blessed will be Odin.

Jon Favereau Twitted (tweeted?) that Green Lantern stopped by the Iron Man 2 set. Ryan Reynolds was there? If so, why? Hrmmmm. I ponder this muchly.

Also, no one knows what Ryan Reynolds being signed to play Hal Jordan will mean for the Deadpool movie. The GL script is nearly done and they're looking to start filming on that in January with a 2011 release date. Deadpool currently has no script but is /also/ looking for a summer 2011 release date. Conflict much?

Jackie Chan and Jayden Smith have begun shooting The Kung Fu Kid in Beijing. Yes, when you put Jackie Chan in instead, you get Kung Fu instead of Karate.

ICONS!

All of you SteamPunk people who read this, I know you're out there, you should go look over here at Cherie Priest's website for her alternate universe - http://theclockworkcentury.com/ It is really awesome to poke about. I love alternate history stuff, turning and twisting all of the important moments of history - and sometimes the less important ones are even better.

I'm hoping to go look at this place tonight or tomorrow night - http://www.redfin.com/WA/Seattle/116-17th-Ave-98122/unit-D/home/52563 as well as a few others but this is the one that makes me amazingly happy with location.

I am so close to vacation, I can almost taste it. For that and a few more reasons, I'm expecting this to be a bumpy week at work. I can make it, though. I can make it.

Other than that, I'm making a commitment to myself to go back to the gym regularily when I get back from Comic Con. I've been seriously slacking since the begining of June and while I'm still doing ym push ups and crunches at home, I know I need more than that. Being at work until 6 and 7 has been killing my desire to do much of anything when I get out of the office.

Perhaps with substance.

I've been working a lot of long days the past few weeks. Lots of 10+ hour days, working at home, vendor dinners and such. (And even if the food is fantastic, vendor dinners are still work - pleasant chitchat with people you don't really know can be taxing. Business relationships are odd.) I've had some good times with friends as well, in between then and now - amazing what I've packed into the time I've had.

I know I have had even more time than it seems but recently my brain has been turning off when I don't specifically need it. Next week I will have some important meetings at work, which will be brutal and the week will be mostly prep work to build up to it. And then the week after that is San Diego. The week after that I'm trying to find a way to get to my parent's place but man, is if going to cost me a fortune, no matter which way I go. I have the money but I'm trying to be better about my spending as I've noticed it is very tempting to be all, "Oh, well, I have all that house money just... sitting there..."

Not really a safe mind set.

On the house front, the weird house sold yesterday, which is unfortunate. I have a long list of more I want to go look at. I wonder if I'm being too picky but with a house, I can't imagine that is a bad thing. It isn't like a shirt that if I don't like it, I'll just end up giving it to Goodwill or waiting until I like it again.

I feel like something is missing from me and I don't know what it is. I get this way from time to time. I wait until is passes and I'm betting a lot of it will fall away from me once I get to the airport. Travel makes me feel myself in a way that nothing else does.

I do see the irony of being frustrated with the others around me for not being able to shake out of the things that have a hold on them. Really, I do, especially when I'm taking a 'stay on target' sort of approach. It doesn't mean I don't advocate the getting up and chaking it off method. Just right now it doesn't work for me.
